About Brendan

Brendan Curran is a candidate for Otsego County Prosecuting Attorney in the upcoming election.
Brendan, the youngest of six, was born in Detroit, Michigan. His parents, Joseph and Anne Curran, emigrated from Ireland after the Second World War, worked their way through school, obtained post graduate degrees and worked as school teachers in Detroit Public Schools, while raising their six boys. By their example, Brendan's parents taught him the importance of living a life driven by honesty, integrity and commitment to public service.
Brendan served as a MP in the United States Army, 18th Airborne Corps, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1981 to 1983. Returning home to Michigan, he earned an associate's degree in criminal justice from Schoolcraft College. Majoring in history, Brendan received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State University and then his law degree from University of Detroit - Mercy School of Law. He worked full time in the advertising industry to pay his way through school.

Brendan and his wife, Mary, have been happily married for 13 years. Their three children, Keely, Eamon and Rory, attend St. Mary Cathedral School, and their son, Michael, is a 2006 graduate of Gaylord High School. With a desire to raise their children in Northern Michigan, Brendan accepted a position as Assistant Prosecutor in Otsego County and relocated his family from the Detroit area to Gaylord in 2002. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to Chief Assistant Prosecutor, and held that position until 2009. Brendan then worked as an Assistant Prosecutor in Alpena County before accepting a position in Clare County as their Chief Assistant Prosecutor. Having recently been selected by the 46th Circuit Court Judges to fill the interim position of Otsego County Prosecuting Attorney, Brendan is once again serving the people of Otsego County.
In the past ten years, Brendan has served under four different elected prosecutors in three different counties. In these various roles, he has built and maintained good relations with law enforcement officials, the bench, and the bar; including the criminal defense bar. Brendan has always been responsive to any member of the community who has a question, concern, or problem, and strives to be a public servant with a human face: the kind of guy you can talk to when you need help.
Brendan enjoys canoeing, camping and spending time with his family. Although Brendan stays very busy in his many roles (husband, father, prosecutor), he makes every effort to stay active in the community where he and his family have made their home. Brendan served as President of the 46th Judicial Circuit Bar Association in 2009 and 2010. He is a member of the Gaylord-Otsego Fraternal Order of Police, Otsego County Democratic Party, American Legion and St. Mary Cathedral Parish. Brendan's participation on Congressman Stupak's Military Academy Candidate Evaluation Board from 2005 to 2010 earned him special congressional recognition for his outstanding and invaluable service to the community.
